The Brahmaso Humanitarian Aid Organization

The Brahmaso Humanitarian Aid Organization Brahmaso is the largest funeral assistance association in Mandalay. Founded on May 7, 1998, as the Brahmaso Social Assistance Association, it has served the community for decades. Daw Ama (Ludu) was among the founding patrons and offered early guidance to the association.Brahmaso not only provides free funeral services but also supports patients who cannot afford medical expenses. Today, the organization operates a clinic that offers free treatment to those in need. While the exact number of beneficiaries is unknown, the reach has been extensive and continues to grow. The current leadership includes: Chairperson: Prof. Dr. Nyein Nyein Secretary: U Maung Maung Tar Other executive members and medical professionals.

Brahmaso - How We started

On May 7, 1998, Brahmaso was established in Mandalay with the blessing of Taung Salin Sayadaw U Tikha, who granted a 200-foot plot within a school compound to serve as the association's headquarters.

Sayadaw U Tikha continues to serve as the association’s patron. A hearse was generously donated by the family of Nadi Myanmar U Aung Khaing and Daw Nyo Mi. Since April 4, 2000, Brahmaso has also been providing medical aid.

Before launching its clinic, the association offered hospital-based financial support for patients—up to 200,000 kyats per day, according to Sein Win (Ludu). A generous donor had previously donated land for a hospital, but government restrictions prevented construction. As a result, the clinic remains the primary treatment center.

Brahmaso’s activities across Upper Myanmar have had a meaningful impact. The number of people helped is uncounted—but continues to grow daily.

Pioneers of Myanmar Community Service

Brahmaso began as a volunteer-based community service group, even before the Funeral Aid Association in Yangon. It was established 3 to 5 years earlier and served as a model for similar initiatives across the country. Notably, U Thu Kha is said to have founded the Yangon association based on Brahmaso’s example.
